Either way, I want to be of encouragement to you.

My homeschool definition:
Home: A place where I chased my kids around, the toilet was always dirty, and I was lacking sleep.
School: The everyday experience of training my kids in the things of life, as well as reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Listen, this is hard! And my definition may not be your definition! But as a mom who did it, all of my children lived to tell about it.
I was so scared my kids wouldn’t be able to function in the real world when we were all done. Would they know enough? Would they be able to interact with people? Too much sheltering? Trust me, this went through my head for 20 years.
I remember telling my kids we'd just put another quarter in the therapy jar. Ha!
I remember wondering if I was screwing them up with no turning back.
However, after home educating our kids for 20 years and seeing all that our family accomplished, I can now tell you that nobody died and I still have my brain intact.
I sat down recently and began to go through what I wish I would have known when I started.
First things first, mom, if you are battling inside, feeling like you have to be perfect and you’re wondering why you have even chosen this homeschooling journey, let me bring you a new perspective that will help you know that your kids are going to be more than O.K.
Yes, curriculum is important, and I know you’re wondering about socialization. But even more importantly is the permission to trust your gut as a momma and to be able to throw something out when it’s not working.
What I found that I really needed was a coach.
Someone who had a bigger picture.
Someone who knew my heart.
Hi, I’m Kirsten. I'm a Minnesota mom of 3 children and we all survived 20 years of homeschooling together. Not only did we have animals everywhere, inside and out, but we also had hormones running around and a business that made us feel crazy at times!
Trust me, Better Homes and Gardens never did show up at my house to give me an award.
Parent's Magazine never called me for the interview.
A clean home and perfect parenting were not the requirements for success in this journey of home educating my kids.
But instead, what I found out out in the end, was that I actually didn't have to be perfect to receive all of the benefits we still enjoy to this day.
I now know that what we did was we designed our very own family, and you can too.
Recently I asked my daughter what it was that was most surprising to her after she graduated and went to college.
She told me that seeing the behaviors of other kids her age, she realized that she had grown up, graduated out of homeschool, and was never bullied.
Imagine that. That was her answer? Never bullied? I had no idea that's what she was going to say! And here she thought it was sports that she had missed out on.
I'm so grateful.
Going from self doubt to confidence is priceless.
